On 5 Apr 2022 we visited a proposed solar pump project at Coolcronan Fishery on the River Moy. Coolcronan is about half way between Foxford and Ballina on the Moy. Jennifer Murray of the Moy River Trust walked us along the 350 m of river bank where it is proposed to fence all animals out of the river and to provide drinking water via solar pumps.
The banks are quite badly eroded. It is proposed to plant native trees with the aim of stabilising the banks. New stiles are included in the project proposal for safe angler access.
The project may act as a pilot or demonstration project that other land owners will copy along the Moy.
